Primary Purpose:
Promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree Valid Texas Physical Education (EC-12) Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience in Interscholastic or Intercollegiate Athletics preferred Knowledge and experience with Physical Education TEKS, classroom structure and organization Current knowledge of the latest trends and research regarding health, nutrition, and athletic performance.
Experience:
One-year student teaching or approved internship preferred Coaching experience preferred Position requires coaching assignment (1 sport minimum) Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction 1.
Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports.
2.
Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
3.
Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of students.
4.
Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
5.
Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
Program Management 6.
Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
Model performance criteria and physical movements required for successful student performance of sport.
7.
Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
8.
Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
Student Management 9.
Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
10.
Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication 11.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
Administration 12.
Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
13.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
14.
Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain a current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within program.
Other 15.
Any and all other duties as assigned by your immediate supervisor.
16.
Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
